ABOUT COSMIC LYNX

Dax Quick Headshot

Hi! I'm Dax Quick aka Cosmic Lynx. I started this project as a creative outlet in order to share my music with others. As for the name, Cosmic Lynx represents several concepts that are important to me. The Cosmic part represents the celestial themes often found scattered throughout my music. The Lynx part of the name ties into my lifelong appreciation of felines, as I have always had a connection with cats. Additionally, Lynx is a play on words as it can also be interpreted as Links, representing the interconnected themes and instruments used throughout my music.String Theory is my first album and first time publicly releasing music. I chose the name as it ties into the interconnected themes present between the tracks when interpreted as the scientific definition. Additionally, when interpreted literally, it has a more playful feline reference. I have worked on this album in bits and pieces starting in September of 2024. For many of the tracks, they originally started out as learning exercises as I taught myself music production. As my skills grew, I kept returning to my favorite pieces to expand and revise them until they morphed into something I was happy with. This process of revision continued all the way until the early 2026 as the album project came to conclusion.I would like to take a moment to show appreciation to the amazing people who were a huge help throughout this whole processes. Firstly, I would like to thank Grayson Valentine for his amazing album artwork for String Theory. Additionally, he was a huge help in providing feedback and encouragement from the very early stages of this project which was a huge motivator. Another key member of this project was Robbie Whalen. Robbie was a huge help with the mixing and mastering process and provided some amazing live recorded drums to Awakening. Finally, I would like to thank everyone who listened to my early demos and provided feedback, as well as all my family and friends who supported this project. <3

ALBUM PRODUCTION

I am currently using Ableton Live for all my music production so far. Additionally, I have also acquired a few analog Moog synths, however they are currently only present on the track Awakening from my released music. I definitely hope to use them a lot more in the future! In terms of plugins, Serum is definitely by far my most used, it can be found on pretty much all of my tracks. RC-20 is a close second though, as I often use it to add texture. For my String Theory album, I tried to incorporate a variety of sounds and influences from different genres. You can here the inclusion of taiko on many of my tracks, as I feel Japanese drums have a very interesting sound and are often underused in modern music. Additionally, I like to use a variety of different percussive layers to add texture to my tracks. Some of the more notable examples include a rattling coffee can and ping pong ball. Also, a central theme to my music is definitely synths as I really love how they sound and have a lot of fun composing for them.
